Denver Chess Club member, and former CLUB PRESIDENT Joe Haines, is going to serve our chess club as Tournament Director on Tuesday nights.
Joe Haines is one of the most capable individuals ever to serve DCC as an officer. His accomplishments have brought stability and harmony to our club. His interest in the Royal Game seems to stem from an aristocratic nature and he is often generous to share his analytical insights. Joe is often quiet, but the glimmer of humor is ever present. Sometimes, he shows something of a look bemused puzzlement at the happenings of the world, as though he is used to inwardly shaking his head. ---Bruce Bain, President, DCC

In volunteering to be the TD for the Denver Chess Club, Joe Haines shows a remarkable tendency to be in the right place at the right time. This has been Joe's legacy since he first appeared in the DCC playing rooms.
It was Joe Haines who offered the Denver Chess Club a site to hold Tuesday meetings, when we were forced to move from the 9th & Bannock site in Denver. Joe, who then managed the Girl Scouts facility at Camp Rollandet, gave the Denver Chess Club a good temporary home. After that, Joe Haines served as the DCC President for the year 2005, and brought quite a bit of professionalism and polish to the job.
After an interim year, Joe Haines is now keeping the Denver Chess Club going by serving as a Tournament Director. The Tournament Direction role is the most essential job in the club, even superceding the office of president and all other roles.
The most important task facing the Denver Chess Club at the moment, is to train other Tournement Directors so that this task is shared by several individuals rather than a single individual. Any person willing to step into these roles should contact Bruce Bain at 720-318-6496 or e-mail me at YaxisX@aol.com).
Joe Haines is one of the most capable managerial personalities I have ever seen. When it comes to getting things done, Joe acts decisively. I further appreciate that Joe listens to the opinions of others, and shows a willingness to work with others, which is critical to the club's growth.
Owing to the fact the the Denver Chess Club is progressing towards a point where it may have better playing facilities, sponsorship funding, and a larger membership, it is important that we recognize Joe's work and importance to the future of chess; but that we also find other personalities that can bring the same kind of professionalism to the club's activities. --Bruce Bain, President DCC

DCC officers acted by unanimous vote to make Joe Haines the CLUB MANAGER.
Joe is the best candidate for the position, and everyone at the club seems to like his sense of humor and overwhelming managerial skills. Joe puts a lot of his personal time and effort into this work. He plans tournaments, and sends the results of our tournaments to the USCF. He sets up tables and chairs and posts literature on the status of club competitions.
Joe has a very serious side however. When it comes to the well being of the club and the policies that ensure the success of chess playing in our area, Joe's word is often the final authority.
