VISITORS WELCOME
Visitors to the Denver Chess club are very WELCOME, and they can do the following when they visit our Tuesday night games:
1) Walk around and watch the games being played
2) grab a club supplied chess board and pieces and invite someone to sit down and play a game. However, we do require that after 30 days, visitors join the club.
3) Talk to club members or a club officer about what it means to become a member or ask other questions about the Denver Chess Club
4) At 7:30 PM, we start a rated chess game, and courtesy requires total quiet in the club, so, only whispers after 7:30 PM.
We wish to make the public welcome. You do not have to be a member just to visit. Nothing makes us happier than to see a new friendly face, because chess is a social activity. We welcome children as much as adults. Some of the best chess talent in the United States are the children who have played during their school years at the Denver Chess Club, and who have gone on to win in national tournaments. FAQ:
Do I have to be a DCC member to play chess?
No. Membership in DCC not required: The Annual Membership is $40.00 / year.
A membership means that a Tuesday night rated game costs $2.00 less than what a non-member pays.
We permit new visitors to play chess (non-rated) at our club for 30 days. After that period, an annual membership must be purchased. |

The Denver Chess Club, as all organizations, runs on money. We charge DUES to members so that we can pay rent and other expenses and continue to operate.
For this reason, the Denver Chess Club hopes that visitors will understand that after a visitor has visited the club for about 4 weeks, we will demand that the visitor buy a membership, as all club members do.
The Denver Chess Club has a huge responsibility to the future of chess, and that is why we PROMOTE chess. In order to truly PROMOTE chess for others, we must meet our expenses. In this sense, to truly be a member of a club, is to assist other members in this effort.
In this regard, the most important members of our club are those who are enthusiastic about the promotion of chess. Those who are unwilling to contribute to the Denver Chess Club in this effort cause undue financial burden upon paying club members, and this constitutes an unfairness that DCC does not desire.

SOMETHING IMPORTANT:
There is much chess promotion for children of school age and chess. However, I sometimes wonder if all the chess foundations who so often make children the target of chess promotion, have not somewhat missed the boat? Chess needs ADULTS too.
Nothing would please me more than to see the City of Denver contain several chess clubs, including the participation of many ordinary working people.
I will confide something to you. Many times I encounter people who have problems in their lives of all kinds, such as Economic, Relationship, Career & Employment, and even Spiritual issues. I often feel that if the person had played chess, these difficulties could be lessened, or perhaps prevented altogether.
Chess is NOT an expensive hobby. I guarantee that if you went out today, and bought a starter set of Fishing Tackle, Soccer equipment, Baseball equipment, Backpacking, Mountain-Climbing or Skiiing equipment, you would spend many times more money than if you bought a chess set and a beginner book or beginner chess lessons such as are advertiesed on this website.
Perhaps the greatest hurdle I see, as somone who endorses chess as a healthy activity, is that a certain attitude exists that suggests that Chess-Is-Only-For-Expert-Players. Nothing could be further from the TRUTH. Many people who are not particularly strong in chess, enjoy the game, and do win from time to time. | DCC has a steady influx of visitors to the club. We always emphasize that chess is a game that is as enjoyable to the beginner as it is to the advanced player. Whatever the level of interest, people are welcome to come and ask question about the game, tournaments, and what it takes to get started in the "Royal Game". |
